Pete’s Greens is a four-season organic vegetable farm located in Craftsbury, Vermont owned by Peter Johnson. We grow a vast array of specialty vegetables with an emphasis on baby greens, heirloom tomatoes, and root crops. On our farm, soil fertility is a top priority. We cover crop extensively and apply prodigious quantities of compost in order to grow top quality vegetables. We use greenhouses, heated with recycled vegetable oil when necessary, root cellars and other season extension techniques to provide the greatest diversity of vegetables for as much of the year as possible.

I love owning a share with Pete's. This is my second share. My first was a Veggie Only Share and I am currently doing a Localvore share which consists of Veggies and Pantry items. At first it took some time to adjust to meal planning and cooking a lot of vegetables that I haven't cooked previously.
My shares have been nothing but amazing, beautiful, healthy products. The taste of their produce is mind boggling. I used to just buy produce at a supermarket because the cost of organic and local scared me. I had no idea what I was missing. I have never tasted such wonderful common produce like carrots, celery and beans like Pete's. Pete's produce is grown in nutrient dense soil which I believe is what makes it so vibrant, healthy and tasty.
The customer service is nothing short of amazing as well. I didn't know service like this existed anymore. A real person responds to you and makes sure that things are straightened out.
Pete's offers different payment options so that you don't have to pay up front, which is great. Plus, it's a four season CSA which is unique for Vermont. Pete's really has it all when it comes to a CSA. You can cancel a week here or there and you get a credit towards your account. you can switch delivery sites. You can get a small or large share, meat, pantry or a combo. While I was looking to CSA's I noticed that many CSA's don't have any flexibility.
There are lots of delivery sites so there is bound to be one near you. Pete's partners with amazing bread, cheese, yogurt, etc. makers around the area. So each week I look forward to what items will be included.
Buying a share with Pete's was the best decision I've ever made in reference to feeding my family. I want to cook from scratch, like being nudged to try new veggies and want to support my local economy.
Of course a share isn't for everyone but a share is in reach for anyone who wants to buy one. It's very affordable and there is a program to help people pay for their share if they are in need. It is promising to see local, organic, quality food within reach for all Vermonters. Buying a share also makes you feel like you are part of something good. It makes me feel much more connected to my food source and a community than being a member of my local co-op has ever made me feel.
I loved touring the farm!
