What do you get when a farmer, a businessman, a professor, a hockey mom, a non-profit leader, and their five kids get together? Vermont’s – and perhaps New England’s - first yak herd, of course. Yaks are iconic, hardy animals that are currently not being kept or bred in Vermont. They are beautiful to look at (think buffalo with prayer flags), healthy to eat, suitable for use as guard animals for sheep, generous with their cashmere-like hair, and trainable as pack animals.
